Last fall’s online TSK program discovered in the ‘nothing’ of space the potential for limitless freedom. This winter we explore how the TSK vision links the openness of space to the boundless capacity to know, seeing all appearance as the projection of knowledge− appreciation merging with allowing to sweep away the stale perceptions of thought and desire. This online program is presented live on the web, with opportunities for continuing online dialog and discussion. Over the six weeks of the program, we will read and explore experientially Chapters 5-8 in  Tarthang Tulku’s Dynamics of Time and Space (Dharma Publishing, 1994).

Join us in this ongoing exploration of Tarthang Tulku’s Time, Space, and Knowledge Vision, a radical re-imagining of what it means to be alive.

Like curdled milk, America is clotted up. Political life is frozen, broken. Sloganeering dominates our discourse. Smug and self-righteous, we feed on forced smiles and balloon on fast food. Our problems persist. Our dissatisfactions persist.

This course looks at two American giants, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman, as guides on the path to open and creative inquiry.

We have a habit of rushing, which has been called hurry sickness, and time poverty, the feeling that we don’t have enough time. These mental and physiological habits strongly affect our health and well-being. Dr. Larry Dossey wrote: “Many illnesses–perhaps most–may be caused either wholly or in part by our misperception of time.”

In this series of sessions, you’ll practice a dozen exercises for relieving time’s friction and relentless flow.

at Ratna Ling retreat Center
$360

Instructor: Jean-Claude van Itallie

Laying the groundwork through different kinds of movement and meditation, gently guided by Jean-Claude, you’ll center yourself according to his unique disciplines. Taking your time and staying in movement, you’ll address the circle of your encouraging fellow workshop participants.  Slowly performing the powerful practice of speaking from your heart, your breath will be liberated from anxiety. You’ll easily enter remembered or imagined places, giving voice to what you see, hear, smell, touch and taste.  An astonishingly muscular, personal language will spontaneously emerge from you.  Words created in this way are visceral, rhythmical, and, if written down by a fellow participant, alive on the page too.

In this introduction to the TSK vision, we will use exercises, discussion and a few short readings to discover how easy it is to let go of fixed positions and identities. Come discover the simple, powerful, and liberating methods of TSK, a teaching designed by a leading Tibetan lama for the Western mind.

Through exercises, discussion, and creative inquiry, TSK gives access to a deeper level of being, where real and lasting change can happen. It invites us to rediscover space as allowing, time as dynamic, and knowledge as fundamental to reality, not “owned” by the one who knows.
